The Film Festivals carry a broader goal than just showing films. In combination with the educational components, the festival establishes links between various expressions of art to create deepening and broadening. Various workshops and master classes were given where filmmakers could further their skills and interested parties could learn about film and television making.
Through its festivals, The Back Lot stimulates the development of young film makers, script writers and other activities associated with film. Since the possibility to show films was offered, the festivals also promoted the production of Surinamese films. In addition, Suriname acquired more popularity as a location for film productions. This is how an annual film festival positively influences the development of the still young and poorly structured Surinamese film production sector.
